This is Lea.
I'm a singer and a songwriter, and I reckon that's mostly my parent's doing. When my folks met, my dad was a soul trumpet player in the band Black Heat, which happened to have been started by my mom's brother (the late, great Chip Jones). My mom and Uncle Chip had been raised in the Jones Family Gospel Singers, an a cappella group comprised of their seven siblings. And I reaped the benefit of all that joyful noise.
Despite elementary school plans of being a vet, I discovered the acoustic guitar at 13 and taught myself to play by writing songs. I've never looked back since.
In case you were wondering, I'm a lover of languages and a firm believer in the likelihood of extra-terrestrial life and all manner of psychic phenomena. :)
I've gotten to share the stage with legends like Odetta and Mavis Staples, as well as, modern troubadours like Dar Williams and Anthony Hamilton. So far, I've managed to make my joyful noises in the US and Europe. And people, generally, seem to like them - the noises.
Still, my most enthusiastic audiences are shorter than me (and that's saying something). I also have the privilege to write songs with Kid Pan Alley and do kiddie sing-alongs with groups like BoogieBabes.
In the evening, when the songs are all sung, I go home to a beautiful family of 3 kids, ages 16, 7 and 8 months and my sweetheart.
So, I'm living the dream and absolutely still dreaming.
